______________________________________________________ ![]() Taking an african safari takes a little preparation and for first time travellers to this mighty continent, some homework is required before setting off.
We've heard some horror stories regarding ill-prepared travellers who basically forgot to just do the basic preparation and found themselves left high and dry. For example, safari wear... this is such a vital component of your trip yet so many people forget to check. Preparing For An African Safari Let's prepare you for your safari in Africa adventure. Forget the wildlife for the moment, you've got to lay the foundation for your trip. - Travel light... you'll be doing plenty of travelling so don't get too carried away with lots of luggage. - In summer, take light clothing while in winter, light and heavy...warm days cold nights. Also take a hat! - Insect repellant is mandatory. Forget it and you're at the mercy of mosquitoes and the like. - Take sunscreen. Make sure it's a recommended brand. - If you are travelling on the highways, particularly in South Africa then loose change is a must. You'll be going through plenty of tolls! - Make sure you have your I.D. with you at all times. Avoid carrying a purse or wallet particularly in urban areas. Always put your I.D. in a safe place before going to bed at night. Some place you'll remember. Popular Safari Destinations African lion safaris are always popular. With the african lion coming under scrutiny in recent years with dwindling numbers many people are taking advantage of seeing this magnificent beast in the wild. Some of the more popular lion safari destinations include the Masai Mara National reserve in Kenya, particularly during the months of the wildbeest migration. South Africa's vast Kruger National Park, Botswana's magnificent Central Kalahari, Chobe and Linyati parks and Tanzania's famous reserves, from the Serengeti to Lake Victoria. The african lion is not the only famous "jungle icon" you'll witness in this amazing landscape. One of Africa's great attraction is it's landscape extremes. From thick jungle to open plains and waterways, if you are a student of photography then you'll be in your element. Types Of Safaris Walking expeditions when possible, are certainly the most rewarding. You'll be under heavy guide protection all the time and generally, will follow well-worn trails close to camp sites. Mobile expeditions can be equally rewarding given you'll get closer to wildlife from the protective environment of a vehicle. Because of the vast distances in Africa, this is the most utilised way of travelling and in many cases, people will get the opportunity to do a little exploring on foot. Other types of african safaris include Fly -Ins, which are a little more expensive, canoe, and of course, for more experienced travellers, self-drive adventures. |
